• PANAME TROPICAL
  • Paname Tropical is a seven members band including musicians, singers and bartenders.
    Coming from different places (France, West-Indies and Mauritius) Paname Tropical members have all been influenced by sunny musical styles wich find theirs origins in Indian Ocean, Carabean sea, Brazil, West and North Africa and Louisiana.
    Their original music (wich the main aim is to make people dance ) is the result of this melting-pot. If you come one night, you’ll surely go through parisian musette, bourrée from Auvergne, Mauritian sega, brasilian batucada, Maceo Parker’s funk, and so on...
    Paname Tropical records its first album in 1988.
    “Ceddahology” becomes the music of a humoristic broadcast (Rien à Cirer featuring Laurent Ruquier).
    In 1992, the band released “Pakalolo” on wich appears Emeline Michel (haïtian singer). The album is produced by Philippe Conrath (Coballt).
    1995, Paname Tropical goes to Madrid with Manuel Malou (original score of “Gazon Maudit”): “les Indiens du Quartier” is recorded. Afterwards the band plays live two months in a row at “Le Sentier des Halles” (Parisian concert place).
    In 1997 start “Le Bal des Familles” adventure and the self-production with Paname Association. Music is played for dance.
    1998, a live album is made after a concert season in “Le Divan du Monde”.
    1999, le Bal moves to Glazart where a new live album is made by Dominique Robert (accordionist from Reunion).
    Early 2001, le Bal des Familles, born in 1927, ends.
    Paname Tropical follows its way.

    THE BAND:
    Antoine Larcher: alto sax, accordion, keyboard, vocals, composition.
    Jean-Philippe Claverie: guitare, vocals, composition.
    James Chrétien: drums, vocals, composition.
    Pascale Yoko: singer, barmaid.
    Patrick Jean-Baptiste: bass.

    Songs are sung in West-Indian creole, Mauritian creole and french.
    Lots of instrumentals are also played.

    On stage, Paname Tropical plays its own songs and some cover versions wich give the audience a perfect occasion to join the band with its singings.
    The musicians never go backstage: they are used to play 4 hours in a row. If their musical présence is not needed at a time, they can chill directly on stage (wich is equiped with a bar counter.
    In between two sets people get busy with games and traditional ti-punch. A night with Paname Tropical is a no-need chairs night: people come to dance and enjoy the sunny rythms.
